An Honest Approach to Mosquito Control
One of the questions we occasionally receive is:
"Do you spray for mosquitoes?"
The simple answer is no.
That may surprise some homeowners because many pest control companies advertise seasonal mosquito spraying. At Bug Bust Pest & Termite, we've made a conscious decision not to offer routine mosquito treatments because we believe in recommending services that provide meaningful long-term value while respecting the environment.
Our philosophy has always been simple:
If we wouldn't recommend it for our own property, we won't recommend it for yours.
Why Mosquito Spraying Has Limitations
Mosquito sprays can temporarily reduce adult mosquito populations, but they do not eliminate the conditions that allow mosquitoes to reproduce.
Mosquitoes continually fly into treated areas from neighboring properties, parks, wetlands, wooded areas, and untreated landscapes. Even after treatment, new mosquitoes can quickly replace those that were eliminated.
For many properties, this means the results are temporary and require repeated applications throughout the season.
Rather than offering a service that requires continual retreatment, we prefer helping homeowners understand how to reduce mosquito breeding around their property.
Mosquitoes Need Water
Every mosquito begins its life in water.
Even surprisingly small amounts of standing water can become breeding sites, including:
Bird baths
Children's toys
Flower pots
Clogged gutters
Buckets
Tarps
Wheelbarrows
Outdoor furniture covers
Poorly drained areas of the yard
Eliminating these water sources is often one of the most effective ways to reduce mosquito populations around your home.
Landscaping Can Make a Difference

Simple landscaping practices may help reduce mosquito activity, including:
Keeping grass mowed
Trimming dense shrubs
Removing excessive weeds

These steps won't eliminate mosquitoes, but they can make your yard less attractive as a resting area.
Protecting Yourself and Your Family
When mosquito activity is high, homeowners can also reduce exposure by:
Wearing long sleeves and long pants during peak mosquito hours.
Using EPA-registered insect repellents according to the label.
Repairing window and door screens.
Avoiding unnecessary standing water around the home.

Routine mosquito spraying can reduce adult mosquitoes for a short period, but it doesn't prevent new mosquitoes from flying in from neighboring properties or breeding in untreated areas. Rather than selling repeated treatments that may offer only temporary relief, I prefer helping homeowners reduce mosquito breeding around their property through practical maintenance and prevention.

Mosquito Myths vs. Facts
Myth: Spraying my yard once will eliminate mosquitoes for the season.
Fact: Mosquitoes continually move into treated areas from neighboring properties, parks, wetlands, and wooded areas. Repeated treatments are often needed because new mosquitoes continue to arrive.
Myth: Mosquitoes only breed in ponds and lakes.
Fact: Many mosquitoes develop in very small amounts of standing water found around residential properties.

Fact: Reducing standing water, improving property maintenance, using personal protection, and following Integrated Pest Management principles are among the most effective long-term ways to reduce mosquito problems.
